Protect Your Progress – The Be Heard Podcast Episode 21

Protect Your Progress This is the last Mindset Minute before we launch into the second season of full podcast episodes for the Be Heard Show Podcast. I’m ecstatic and amazed at all of the good that comes from the conversations I’m having with business owners and others who inspire me on a regular basis. Interviewing them is like nothing else in the world. I love hearing truly powerful stories. Just like everyone else, I get down a bit and this week was pretty trying for me. I had an impromptu lunch with 14 family members. This is one of the great benefits of moving back to Philadelphia. I get to see my family at the drop of a hat. My … [Read more...]

Do It Anyway: The Be Heard Podcast Episode 20

There are few things more intimidating than a blank piece of paper, a blank screen, an empty recording track. Nothing. What do you do, when you don’t know what to do? What do you do when the blank paper mocks you, laughs at you, tells you you’ll never fill it, that your ideas aren’t worth putting onto the page? What then? You write anyway. What do you do when you can taste and feel a positive change coming, but all indications on the outside are that people want to stop you? It could be extensive edits to a pristine article. It could be a misunderstanding blown out of proportion. It could be a person caught doing wrong, attacking those … [Read more...]

Master the Process: The Be Heard Show Podcast Episode 19

It’s tough and you won’t always feel like doing it, but do it anyway. Create a framework and then move forward from there. One of the toughest things we can do is have an inspiring moment and then get mired in the “how” of it all. Meaning, we wonder which pen to use, which program to open, and which shoe to put on in the morning. I’ve found it’s much easier to overcome natural objections when I have a plan laid out. I can follow the plan. When inspiration comes, I can just put my inspirations inside of that template and go. The goal is not to eliminate creativity. It is really to facilitate creativity. Take care of the smaller … [Read more...]

Speak Up and Find Your Content Marketing Voice

I'm from the hood and I don't hide it. There's no shame in it. One of the things I love about growing up where and when I did, is that quality hip-hop reigned the airwaves. Quality  Hip Hop = Embracing who you are. Telling people who you are. And bragging about it. You can borrow this mentality if you want to - it's one of the best ways to market your business. You don't have to be from the 'hood to tell your story. As long as you're authentic and focused directly on your people - you will be absolutely fine. Here's why: When you integrate your story into your marketing, you attract people who are right for your brand. You also repel … [Read more...]

Philly to Miami: My Dream and My Story Revealed

Corporate America is just like the streets. There are gangs (cliques), alliances, back-room deals, bullies, and worst of all, snitches. When I got that lesson, I had peace of mind; enough peace to make tough decisions and leave places that didn't serve my agenda. That's just what I did when I designed my future when I was in high school.  My first high school was like the movie, "Lean on Me" with Morgan Freeman. Fights every day. Teachers aides who were a bit too friendly with students. Every guy I knew carried a gun to school. Both my best friends got pregnant freshman year. I knew I just had to get up out of there. I got transferred … [Read more...]

A Marketer's Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, Please keep me from: saying I was published on CNN, in the New York Times, and Huffington Post, when I really only have an account on the site just like thousands of other people. saying I'm a best-selling author when I've chosen the smallest niche possible in which to publish, sell 10 books and call it a best seller And while you're at it, please keep me away from people who would do such things. Keep me from their evil and help me to stick to the right path. I pray I would earn the chance to actually be published on mentioned in respected publications. Father, I yearn to write a book that reaches millions. Please … [Read more...]

Courage

There really is no excuse. Technology makes the space for procrastinating smaller and smaller. Things are so easy now to create, execute, and distribute. It's so easy with technology. But it's hard being vulnerable enough to tell your story, to be authentic, and to launch new and innovative things. Courage. There's no app for that. … [Read more...]

Go Deaf – Go Up!

Sometimes you just have to go deaf. Take the tree frog for instance. I got one of those chain emails the other day and for some reason I actually read it because it was so intriguing. Tree frogs were having a race to the top of a tree. Two-by-two they raced and none of them ever reached the top. Until the final two. One frog just kept going and going until he reached the top. Why did that one frog win while all the others failed? It was deaf. During the races the frogs at the base of the trees were shouting insults and telling the racers they couldn’t make it. The deaf frog didn’t hear the negative so it just kept on climbing. I imagine … [Read more...]
