Curated Content on the Rise – A Few Examples

I recently fell head over heels with curated content. It’s the way to go for any business owner on-the-go who needs and wants to share their insights. It’s been around for a while but it’s now the stylish way to communicate with busy people you want to influence. A few who are doing it well: The Hustle - It’s a “daily” email for entrepreneurs that summarizes the most important news of the day. Brain Pickings - This isn’t your average curated content with short bites of information. This is a thoroughly researched, well-thought-out tome from a unique mind. The Skimm - It’s a catchy Monday through Friday curated newsletter that covers … [Read more...]

They Can’t All Be Brilliant: The Be Heard Show Podcast – Episode 29

They can’t all be brilliant. Nor should they be. One of the key things about producing content, and quality content, is that some of it isn’t going to be as high in quality as you would always like. What’s the solution? Stop producing? Stop speaking? Stop being? Absolutely not. Instead, focus on the fun of what it is you’re doing. If it’s not fun, make it so. Give yourself challenges. Understand what inspires you to create. Focus on those things. One of my favorite books is called, The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. If you have not read it, you are doing yourself a disfavor for sure. It is, by far, one of the quickest reads I’ve had in a … [Read more...]

Consistency, Comfort Zones, and One Buttock! – The Be Heard Show Podcast Episode 28

I hear it all of the time. “Get out of your comfort zone,” they say. “Do something new,” they say. “Your success is just outside of the things you’re already stuck doing,” the gurus holler. This week, I listened. And it was terrifying. I’m not sure how things will turn out. But I do know I’m a better person for the attempt at doing something new and reaching for greater opportunities. One of my favorite people in history, Eleanor Roosevelt, was quoted as saying, “Do something that scares you every day.” I moved from Philadelphia back to Florida. It is scary because I have no idea what is coming next. But I do know that I’m a better … [Read more...]

The Olympic Mindset – The Be Heard Podcast Episode 18

Virginia Thrasher shows the profound value of an Olympic Mindset.  She won the first gold for the United States in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I picked up on this not because she won the first gold of the games for us, not because she’s a teen who went up against competitors twice her age, but because of something a bit more interesting. Virginia has an inspiring mindset that enabled her to win the gold and I believe it’s something that will serve her throughout her life. I want some of that. So I decided to study just what that special mindset is that has helped her to overcome competition from 50 countries around … [Read more...]

Just Forgive: The Be Heard Podcast Episode 16

One of the toughest things for me to do is forgive other people when they do me wrong. I'm especially resistant to excuse mean words since I know the power of them. I'm learning to have the right mindset means to be prepared to forgive no matter what. That is radical, I know. It also depends on what you believe forgiveness truly is. For me, forgiveness involves trust. It involves God. And it involves taking an active approach in the other person's life, even if that just means praying for them. Find out more by listening to this week's podcast episode in the player above. … [Read more...]

Summer Book Bonus: The Be Heard Show Episode 15

For this week's Mindset Minute, it's all about books. I'm calling this episode the "Summer Book Bonus!" I'm absolutely in love with them and summer is the perfect time to indulge and get my fill of the books I've been meaning to consume. I give myself to books and it's one of the most healing activities in my life. I get lost in them, especially fiction. When I come across a good story, I'm so grateful to the author for taking me to a place other than where I am right now. It's a mini-vacation in and of itself. Which books are you reading this summer? I'm reading a few mainstays and I'm returning to books I've read in the past but it's … [Read more...]

Season One Finale: The Be Heard Show Episode 13

It’s the Season One Finale of the Be Heard Show. I am so excited. When I first set out on this journey I was extremely nervous. But I didn’t let that stop me from going through the inevitable challenges one faces when setting up and starting a podcast. If you’re a long-time listener, you remember the technical challenges I had with launching the show along with some audio issues I still struggle with. What I’ve learned with the podcasting community on Facebook is that those issues never really go away, it’s an ongoing battle and I just need to fight the good fight! Some of the people who have inspired me are John Lee Dumas of the … [Read more...]
