Tell the Truth:
- Be up front about what you can and can’t do.
- Tell who your audience is and who your audience is not.
- Give your people a heads-up when changes will effect how you serve them.
Get Your Tone Right:
Whenever I would step out of line, my sister would tell me, “You betta get your mind right, girl.” It’s the same thing with the tone of your communications.
Even if you’re telling the truth, if you say it in a way that’s mean, uncaring, or nonchalant, your audience feels that. They won’t believe you’re telling the truth, or they won’t care what you have to say – at any time. Ever. You must get this one right.
Time the Message:
The best chess players think several steps in advance – 20 steps is the domain of grand master chess players. You want to be a grand master? You want to dominate your industry? Think several steps ahead – several.
Plan out your messages. Strategically send them out for the highest impact. This is hard. This is not fun. It is the one thing that sets you apart from the competition when reaching out to your people in the market. It is worth the heavy lifting – kind of like having the discipline of saving money for a rainy day or buying insurance.
You’ll see what I mean as I roll this out for my own brand in 2015. Those other small business marketers don’t even know what’s about to hit them. They just don’t know!
Enjoy the infographic above. And by all means let me know what you think.
